Medieval Stockholm
In alleys, stone and memories
In the alleys of Gamla Stan, the Middle Ages remain - close.
In the stones. In the rooms. In what has not quite disappeared.
This is where the city grew up.
Between masonry, narrow courtyards and overbuilt passages, people lived close together - close to the water, the church and the law.
Seafarers. Merchants. Craftsmen.
A life governed by work, faith - and rules.
Traces in the city
We follow the traces that still remain.
Of locksmiths, purse makers and cutters.
Of hands that worked - and lives that were torn.
In churches and chapels lingers the memory of smoke from wax and resin.
Of prayer, everyday life and worry.
Guild halls and council chambers tell of order and power.
And of punishment - when boundaries were crossed.
Laws, life and the city's shadows
At Kåkbrinken, the city's harsher side becomes clear.
Here, the city law feels close.
We encounter details in stone: anchor ties, blind arches, vaults.
Traces of a city that grew from the 13th century - shaped by trade, control and community.
By the water
Along the shoreline, another rhythm opens up.
Docks, warehouses and overbuilt alleys.
Here moved goods, people - and stories.
Near places like Flugmötet, where the city's more abrasive stories take place.
A step closer
This is a walk that feels.
In scent, in sound - in what can be imagined.
We end with a mug of non-alcoholic mead and something small to eat.
A taste of the past.
