More about the tour
🍴 Culinary city walk on Djurgården – food, culture and history in the heart of Stockholm
Welcome to a unique city walk where history and gastronomy meet on Stockholm's most beautiful island – Royal Djurgården. Join Den Gröna Guiden on a flavorful journey of discovery among museums, lush promenades and historical buildings, where we combine Swedish food culture, exciting stories and some of the city's most beloved sights.
🌟 A tasty start at the Nordic Museum
We start the walk at the mighty Nordic Museum, where Artur and Sofie Hazelius collected objects and stories to preserve our cultural heritage when the advent of the railway threatened to fundamentally change Sweden. Here you will hear about how Swedish food culture has developed from the 16th century onwards – from feasts on manor farms to today's Nordic cuisine. We taste a delicious appetizer in the museum's historical environment.
🚢 The world's best-preserved 17th-century ship – the Vasa Museum
Then we continue to the world-famous Vasa Museum, where you will meet the magnificent warship Vasa and hear the dramatic story of its short maiden voyage in 1628. At the same time, we enjoy a main course prepared with Swedish ingredients – a taste of the past and present in the same experience.
⚓ Grave monuments, spirit history and Djurgårdsstrand
Full and satisfied, we walk on to the peaceful Galärvarvskyrkogården, the resting place for many sailors and profiles who have shaped Sweden's maritime history. Along Djurgårdsstrand you will hear the story of the Swedish spirit miracle and Lars Olsson Smith, the man behind Absolut Renat, and how his ideas changed the production of spirits in Sweden.
🏡 Charming quarters in Old Djurgården
We leave the big museums and enter Gamla Djurgården's charming wooden houses and narrow streets such as Långa Gatan and Breda Gatan. Here you will encounter stories about royal hunts, early summer villas and the popular entertainment that has made Djurgården unique for more than three hundred years.
☕ Sweet ending at Djurgårdsvarvet
The tour ends with a dessert and coffee or tea at Djurgårdsvarvet, near Skansen's main entrance. After four hours filled with flavors, culture and history, you will leave the walk both full and satisfied – and with new stories to share.
