More about the tour
The Weavers' Children – Life and People around Barnängen
Current occasions: June 28. July 5 and September 15.
Join a guided city walk in Södermalm, where Barnängen's history is interwoven with people's life stories.
Here we meet the city through work, hands and movements.
Color. Water. Threads that are stretched.
Barnängen – work and industry
Among old factory buildings, the story emerges about Barnängen, once one of Sweden's most important weaving mills.
Here fabrics were dyed and woven.
Here uniforms were created – including for the Caroleans.
And here lived the people who carried out the work.
The girls and the time of discipline
We stop at the reformatory, where girls were shaped for a life in service.
Work, order and survival.
Life stories that rarely got to take place – but that still remain in the stories.
Faggen's tavern and the working-class town
At Faggen's tavern we meet another Söder.
A place filled with life, conflicts and everyday life.
Where people gathered after the end of the working day.
Vitabergen – faith, struggle and change
The walk continues towards Vitabergen, where Elsa Borg worked among the city's most vulnerable.
Here, working-class life was lived in the small.
With toil, community and dreams of something more.
And here also begins the change – towards the Södermalm we know today.
A city walk in Stockholm – with people at the center
The walk ends at Sofia Church, with new perspectives on a district shaped by work, struggle and cohesion.
This is a historical city walk in Stockholm where people are in focus.
Where the past feels close.
