More about the tour

Skogskyrkogården – a World Heritage Site in Stockholm

Next opportunity: May 28, July 7, August 20, September 17, October 1 + 15.

Join a guided city walk in Skogskyrkogården, one of Stockholm's most peaceful – and most telling – places.

Here, forest and architecture meet.
Light and shadow.
Life and memory.

A cemetery without a church

We wander through a landscape where nature carries the story.
A cemetery without a church – but with a clear idea.

You will hear about how the site was chosen, and about the collaboration between the architects Gunnar Asplund and Sigurd Lewerentz.
About ideas that shaped something completely new – where the forest was not cleared away, but became part of the whole.

Architecture, landscape and human traces

Skogskyrkogården is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site (1994).
Here, Swedish nature is combined with some of the 20th century's most important buildings.

We move at a calm pace between open spaces and quiet paths.
Past places where more than 2,000 funerals take place every year.

Places we meet along the way

  • Almhöjden

  • Sju brunnars stig

  • Uppståndelsekapellet

  • Skogskapellet

  • Greta Garbo's grave

The walk ends at Gunnar Asplund's grave.
