Katarina Churchyard is the final resting place for a cross-section of Stockholm's soul.
Actors, poets, musicians and politicians lie here side by side – people who have all shaped our culture and our collective memory in their own way.

Among the most visited graves are those of Mikael Nyqvist, Gösta Ekman, Anna Lindh and Cornelis Vreeswijk.
A simple walk among the paths becomes a journey through contemporary Swedish history – with voices that still seem to echo between the lindens.

The cemetery also tells of the city's older layers: children who died in the cholera epidemics, artisans and sailors from the 18th century Katarina parish, and women whose names were silenced in the church books but whose life stories are preserved in stone.

There is something deeply symbolic in the fact that the church stands on a mountain.
As if she always knew that she had to stand tall to have the strength to fall – and rise again.
