More about the tour
Master of Walls – The City Hall in Brick and Dream
Next available date: July 20.
A walk about Ragnar Östberg and his life's work
This is a city walk about a building.
But also about an idea.
Stockholm City Hall rises on the shore of Lake Mälaren – like a castle, a palace, a landmark.
But why does it look the way it does?
After more than ten years of drawings, decisions, conflicts and craftsmanship, the City Hall was completed in 1923.
A building shaped by its time – but also by one man's vision.
The architect behind the work
We follow Ragnar Östberg.
His upbringing, his thoughts – and his view of the city.
Why do so many styles meet here?
Why brick, towers and symbols in this form?
Step by step we read the building.
Not as a facade – but as a story.
A building to walk around
We move along the City Hall's external environments.
Around the facades. Through the garden. Along the water.
With the help of historical images, the place emerges.
How it looked. How it became.
And what almost never happened.
🔔 Please note: The tour takes place outdoors. We do not go inside the City Hall.
The tour ends in direct connection to the building.
