Green rooms - allotment gardens and parks in Söder
Through allotment gardens and landscaped parks, a landscape opens up where the city's green history still breathes between the trees. Here grow the ideas that Anna Lindhagen and Anna Åbergsson put forward at the turn of the century, when allotment gardens are established after inspiration from Germany and get a clear role in urban development in Södermalm.
In the allotment quarters, stories spread about how the potato changes food supply and gets an unexpected significance in the district. In the older park environments are remains of open-air theaters and the areas where tobacco was once grown on the slopes towards Årstaviken.
The walk goes through terraces, walkways and steep stairs that connect both contemporary cultivation everyday life and older garden culture. The tour ends at Zinkensdamm, where today's allotment plots meet historical traces of previous landscapes.
